The Meander of Queuille
The viewpoint of Queuille, called 'paradise', allows you to appreciate an unspoilt view of this sublime meander, a huge loop created by the river Sioule. Leave your car at the church, access on foot.

A vast reservoir/lake with 3 beaches (supervised in July and August): Confolent, Le Pont du Bouchet (Miremont) and La Chazotte (Saint Jacques d'Ambur). Childrens play areas and picnic areas. A very popular fishing spot.

The Gour of Tazenat is a crater lake which forms a nearly perfect circle, 700m in diameter and around 66m deep with clear water. Surrounded by forest. There is a small restaurant at the edge of the lake near the car park:

The Gorges of the Sioule splendid and steep, unfold from the dam at Queuille to Ebrèuil in the Allier. A successions of meanders and a picturesque road which snakes along the banks of the river Sioule. Discover them by car, on foot, by canoe or fishing!

An unpublished journey through a parc of sculptured monuments in Volvic stone by Gilles Perez. Randomly arranged: some are very visable, others are not, encouraging the visitor to venture into the woods and follow the markers to discover them.

A Classified historical monument built in the 12th century with a classified portal. Particularities: a mixture of Auvergnat and Limosin style in sloping construction. An imposing staircase of 15 steps gives access to the nave. The largest collegiate church in the Auvergne.

The viaduct of Fades (1901-1909) is an exceptional piece of work, over 100m high. The two brick built piers of the bridge are the highest ever built in traditional masonary. The viaduct over looks the Valley of the Sioule.

The Chartreuse Port-Sainte-Marie, founded in 1219, on the banks of the Sioule in a protected natural setting, is the only medieval charterhouse in Auvergne. This monastery marked the history of Combrailles for more than five centuries.
En savoir +Mound and Marshes of Saint-Pierre-le-Chastel
A classified natural reserve, 65 hectares of dry and humid areas. The hill gives uninterupted views of the Chains de Puys volcanoes. The marshland is an area of remarkable biodiversity. Information pannels and a discovery trail help with orientation:

Fortified castle. Currently closed. Grass around is opened for view. Magnificent view over "Gorges de la Sioule".

The highlight point of the Combrailles. At an altitude of 977m this rock was formed by a flow of bassalt lava from a volcanic eruption. Discover geometric blocks which were formed as a result of the rapidly cooled lava. A natural viewpoint, access by foot.

Access on foot from the village. Unusual, the tiny chapel, built in 1959 on the Montagard mound, offers a magnificent view of the Combrailles and Volcanoes of Auvergne, with an unobstructed panorama of the Chaîne des Puys and the Monts Dore.

In this remarkable romanesque Church, dating back to the end of the 12 century, we detect a mixture of influences from the Limousin and Saintongeon. The richness of the sculpures can be seen on the entrance gates to the Church and inside the church.

Menat Abbey is one the the most famous in the Auvergne. Built in the 5th century it has been revamped thoughout the ages. The church contains beautiful carved capitals. A small detour through the cloisters allows you to appreciate the ancient living environment of the monks.

At Savannes the river Chavanon flows through the middle of blocks of rock, bordered on both sides by imposing forests, not accessible by vehicle for over 5km of river. A biodiversity for wildlife and plants. (particulary otters).
